About this property

Welcome to Hotel Spero, Vignette Collection by IHG

Located at 405 Taylor St in San Francisco, Hotel Spero, Vignette Collection by IHG, occupies a restored early 20th-century high-rise building in the historic Tenderloin district. While the neighborhood shows a gritty, urban character with some areas requiring awareness, the hotel benefits from proximity to vibrant spots like Union Square, Little Saigon, and an array of speakeasy-style bars. Visitors can easily access nearby cultural landmarks such as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Alcatraz Island, and the Golden Gate Bridge.

Offering a combination of business and leisure facilities, the property features an on-site American eatery, a bar, a fitness center, and a co-working space. Guest rooms are noted for their charm and updated decor, blending cozy comfort with functional amenities including air conditioning and paid Wi-Fi. Despite some remarks about compact room sizes and limited storage, many guests appreciate the welcoming atmosphere and the attentive, helpful staff, which contribute to a positive stay experience.

Hotel Spero suits business travelers attending conferences or meetings in the city, with its convenient location near the Moscone Center and nearby conference venues. It also serves as a wedding venue and business-to-business service provider, emphasizing its versatility. For visitors relying on transportation, the hotel offers paid parking nearby and is within reasonable travel times to San Francisco International, Oakland, and San Jose airports.

While the lack of a business center and airport shuttle may be a consideration, the property maintains a smoke-free and pet-friendly environment. Guest feedback highlights the hotel’s solid service and clean, comfortable rooms as key strengths, though some note the neighborhood's challenges and an added nightly resort fee as factors to consider. Overall, the hotel provides a practical option for travelers seeking a blend of historic charm and urban access in central San Francisco.

Had a great 3 night stay for a weekend away. Staff were incredibly nice and helpful. On our checkout morning, we had issues with our key card not working and had to get it reset at the front desk. They reset it, only for it to still not work. They walked us up to our room with their master key and offered to extend our checkout time due to the inconvenience. We didn't expect that and ultimately decided not to take up their offer, but the thought really made our stay a great experience. Our room was on the 10th floor. Water pressure is good and hot water came in seconds. Decor is pleasing and nothing like the drab IHG sister buildings of Holiday Inn. It is on the outskirts of the Tenderloin but if you walk east and north you'll be fine. We walked a block south in the early afternoon and the sidewalk was lined with homeless folk. They didn't bother us at all but just mind your surroundings. Very quick walk to Union Square and a short walk to the Bart station for SFO.

I absoutely LOVE this hotel! It's charming, the rooms are nice and have personality and the staff is incredibly friendly. I normally stay at the SF Intercontinental, but with more and more conventions coming back to SF, the prices and availability at the Intercontinental are getting ridiculous. If you've traveled to SF before, you should be aware some areas "the Tenderloin" can be a little rough and while The Hotel Spero is located on Taylor, just walking a couple blocks in the other direction, toward Union Square, you'll be fine. I definitely plan on staying here more often as the options for IHG are somewhat limited for me in the Union Square area. Parking is available nearby, as close as two doors down. Make a reservation with SpotHero and you'll also be able to find nearby parking everywhere. My three night stay was cheaper than one night valet parking at the Intercontinental. Being a Diamond Elite, I was able to upgrade to a one bedroom suite and it was great having all the extra room and it felt like having an apartment in SF. Even better than the corner junior suites at the Intercontinental. I'm really glad to have found this hidden gem and plan on staying here each time I visit SF, which is frequently.

Not my first time at this vintage hotel, but stayed at a medium size room this time. They've done a fair job of updating the rooms, nothing too fancy. The closet and drawer spaces are limited, and the table is tiny. But I love the sturdy designer chair and that the windows actually tilt open for fresh pacific night air. Bed is great, bring your USB charger though if you have several devices.

I can't say enough good things about Hotel Spero. We are in the entertainment business and we spend a lot of time in Bay Area and Sacramento area hotels. When we work in San Francisco, Hotel Spero is our second home. Spero is one of two IHG Vignette hotels located in the U.S. It's in a beautifully restored historic high-rise building in the old "Tenderloin" area of San Francisco. The fully restored lobby is a site to behold. The staff is always kind and accommodating. The rooms are lovely and comfortable. The high floor suites have great views of the city and are much more spacious than the standard rooms, so we like them the best. The hotel is located a short Uber or Waymo from lots of fun things to do, or for us, many of our SF work locations. The only downside, which is the same wherever you go in San Francisco is the cost of parking your car. The garage next to the hotel is $50/night, but I strongly recommend parking at a different garage. There are several garages within a block or two that cost less and provide better and much friendlier service. The kind folks at the front desk will be happy to direct you to a nice, nearby garage. If you've visiting SF, please consider staying at Hotel Spero. You will be very pleased with the property and the staff.

This is my 2nd stay at this IHG Hotel. The service here just gets better and better. I would like to specifically mention Anna and Kathryn, for their kindness and overall excellence at their job. Also, Jay, when I checked in, was super nice and accommodating. The hotel is an old, grand building, and the lobby is spectacular, if you stop and take a look at the ceiling. The rooms are a little on the smaller, cozy side, and the beds are super-comfortable. The bathrooms in the rooms are modern and everything worked great. The location is a little sketchy, so always be aware of your surroundings, but that is pretty normal nowadays no matter where you go in San Francisco. In all, I'd stay here again, and give this property a Five Star review.

Great location right near Union Square with plenty of food and shopping nearby. Staff was nice and room was nice. 4 stars as unexpected $35 nightly resort fee for.... Access to a on-site gym? No other amenities I can see that a Best Western wouldn't have without the resort fee.

I attended a week-long conference where all the usual spots are booked. I found Hotel Spero and it's going to be my go-to now when in SF. Katherine from the front desk was so welcoming and always greets us with a smile. Despite that busy week, she warmly responded to all questions from guests. Brian from the Jasper Bar was also helpful and accommodating. I had to leave early for a flight and went there at 7am sharp for take out breakfast. They immediately got my order and the food was as delicious as how it was prepared on other days too - no sense of rushed food at all. It was a perfect stay indeed!

I stayed at the Hotel Spero for a couple of days while attending a conference at the Moscone Center, and it was great! The staff were super friendly, and the service was great the whole time. My room was clean and comfortable, and housekeeping always did an awesome job. The walk to the Moscone Center wasn’t bad and overall pretty safe. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby, and Union Square is just a short walk away. Overall, it was a great stay, and I’d definitely come back next time I’m in town.
